Engagement Cards [Dec. 25th, 2009|06:55 pm]

tarot

[ficali]
I've been curious about what kind of cards would appear in a reading for an engagement especially a surprise engagement? Aeclectic had a thread on it but I'm curious to find more answers. I've been getting a lot of aces cups/pents and king of swords as well as the hierophant. However, at the beginning I saw the Hierophant as a love triangle but now I'm not so sure. Also two of pents have been showing up a lot and somehow I can't think that it's marriage related especially with the infinity knot... a marriage focused on material/physical things moreso than emotional?
I also see the Page of Pents being a proposal card as well. But that might be a stretch.

I know my situation may be pretty impossible for something like this, but for some reason my intuition and third eye keep producing such feelings about this.

Tarot Tuesday (on Wednesday; Tuesday Got Eaten by Christmas Prep!) [Dec. 23rd, 2009|03:59 pm]

tarot

[stonetalker]
[Current Location |my wonderful home getting less cluttered]
[mood | headachy!]
[music |silence, please, silence]

This week, we're going to take the little meditation exercise and the three card spread from previous weeks, and add our dreams.

Think about a dream that you may have had recently, and write a brief paragraph about the dream in your notebook. Now read the paragraph, and find three key points from your dream, and write them too, leaving space underneath each entry for more writing.

Randomly draw three cards from your deck of Tarot cards, and place them in a row going from left to right. Write the name of the first Tarot card next to the first theme you recorded, the name of the second Tarot card next to the second theme, and the name of the third card next to the last theme.

Now write down what you see in each card. Use the probing questions, as in previous lessons. Write a brief sentence or two that describes how the meanings on the card relate to the theme in your dream. Finally, write a one or two sentence summary, as to what the dream, through your interpretations of the Tarot cards, is trying to teach you.

Example:

Last night I dreamed that Steve had come to fix my computer, and while he was here he had to rewire the house. It wasn't the house in which I lived now, though, and throughout my dream it just kept getting bigger and bigger, with large creepy rooms being uncovered in the basement and the attic. Steve had to rewire the house to make the computer work, and while he was rewiring it, a storm came, with tornadoes. I couldn't get the dogs into the basement, and was worried whether they would be okay, but Steve wasn't worried, and the storm blew over the house. I went outside to chase the dogs back inside, and it had rained so hard that the yard was a swamp, I slipped and fell in the mud. (I admit I have very vivid and strange dreams!)

The themes I chose for my dream were discovering rooms, fixing things, and a storm. The cards that I picked from my Rider-Waite Tarot deck were The Empress, The Seven of Wands, and the Ten of Cups.

The Empress is seated, surrounded by water, grass, and trees. She is voluptuous, comfortable, and holding her staff. There are pomegranates – a symbol of fertility – on her gown, and a pleasant but watchful expression on her face. I related her to the 'discovering rooms' aspect of my dreams by the lushness of her surroundings; the grass and the trees around The Empress are growing, and the house in my dream was 'growing' rooms – even if they were rather creepy!

The Seven of Wands, being the second card, related to the fixing things aspect of my dream. On the card, the figure is on a cliff, holding a staff, and other staffs are in front of him. His face is pensive, rather anxious, and he looks like he is fending off the staffs with the one he is using. His footing is sure, but his situation is questionable, as there is nowhere for him to go. The sky behind him is blue, with neither cloud nor horizon visible. When applying this to the dream aspect, the figure in the card is working hard at beating off the staffs that are rising up to him, indicating that perseverance and hard work is going to be required to get everything fixed and as it should be. The outcome may not yet be determined, but the task still has to be undertaken.

Finally, the Ten of Cups related to the third aspect of my dream, the storm. The image on the Ten of Cups is one of rainbows and blue skies. There is a family in the foreground, looking very happy; the man and woman are arm in arm, and the children are skipping and playing. There is a pleasant country landscape in the background. When applying this to the dream aspect, it makes me think of the rainbow after the storm, how a storm can come through and clear the air, making things fresh again.

My summary, therefore, was that the circumstances in my life were growing, and I was going to have to be diligent and apply hard work if I wanted to stay on top of the situation, but that the outcome was favorable, that the storm would pass and all things would be fresh and settled again.

Two of Pentacles - marriage? [Dec. 21st, 2009|01:13 am]

tarot

[ficali]
I just want to share my take on the two of pentacles: I tots see the two of pentacles as a marriage card. It's right after the Ace of Pentacles which is the stability needed in a relationship as it plants it's seed "coin" in the ground. Ace of Pentacles is also seen as a proposal/engagement card which then makes complete sense of the two of pentacles being the marriage card. Two represents a union, a coupling, etc of two entities. The two of pentacles are wrapped in an infinity knot and infinity means forever. Marrying someone you love is known as tying the "knot". The pentacles have also represented marriage because of its association of of the ring around the star. Star representing a diamond and the ring.. well representing the wedding/engagement ring. The person 'juggling' the coins in the infinity knot is the priest as it unites the coupled coins (people) together. Two of pentacles also suggests the combining of monetary related entities and as a marriage you are definitely combing two monetary entities or juggling an imbalance of something. I am getting this card a lot with readings for chris... thoughts?

Haindl Tarot/accompanying books for sale [Dec. 19th, 2009|02:34 pm]

tarot

[fuego]
Okay...I read over the community rules first, and saw nothing, and looked back through a few pages of older posts and even tried checking the memories and tags but there are none, so...I tried. If there is a problem with this post, I will delete upon request.

I've got a copy of the Haindl tarot that I'm looking to part with. Actually, I've got two. Oh, and three books.

I've got one deck-used, still with the box and little while book- the cards are in great shape, the little white book has one crease in the front cover but is in otherwise excellent condition, the box...not so great, but intact- and one copy of each of the three books written to go with it by Rachel Pollack. I also have one loose copy of the deck- no box, no little white book.

As a package deal, I'm offering the deck in the box with the three books for $50. So that means you would get:

The Haindl Tarot deck by Hermann Haindl (includes little white book)
The Haindl Tarot: Minor Arcana by Rachel Pollack
The Haindl Tarot: Major Arcana by Rachel Pollack
The Haindl Tarot: A Reader's Handbook by Rachel Pollack

Bonus: I'll throw in the recycled silk case that I made to keep the deck in.

Also offering another copy of the deck- all cards present, no box, no little white book for $5. For an extra $10, I'll knit a cover out of recycled silk.

OR if you're really into it, I'll give you the whole ball of wax- All the books, both decks, the crocheted cover- PLUS I'll make another cover for the second deck for $50.

Considering that you would pay more than $55 for the reader's handbook alone if you went through Amazon...this is a pretty good deal.*

The books are all quite used, but the bindings are fully intact and there is no major damage to any of them. I'll try to see if I can grab a picture tomorrow of all the stuff when there's daylight.

If any of this interests you, leave a comment here- first come, first served and first come will be determined by the time stamp on your comment :-P

All items come from a smoke-free environment- no cigarette smoke, nor have they been subjected to any incense/sage/other smudging material smoke.

(PS- I'll take paypal, money order- or if you happen to be in or near downtown Baltimore, I can meet you in a public place and you can give me cash.)

*price as of this posting- which is now about $15 more than it was when I checked the price last week!

(Or, uh, hey...if you just want a silk cover for a tarot deck you already own, ten bucks gets you one. I just need to know the length, width and depth of the deck (Or if it's the Haindl, Archeon, Mystic Dreamer or Deviant Moon deck that you want it for, just specify title, I can use my own copies of those decks to measure against) Color of yarn will be entirely dependent on what I pull out of my big old box of yarn.)

If interested, please email me- lafiamma at gmail dot com, and put "haindl" in the subject line so I don't miss it!

December One-Card Draw [Dec. 19th, 2009|11:48 am]

tarot

[Current Location |my wonderful home with boxes and clutter everywhere]
[mood | enthused]
[music |the sound of snow softly falling]

The One-Card Draw for December is officially here!

I will keep the draw open until Midnight, Sunday 20 December. I don't usually keep them open for so long, but 1) this draw hit a hiatus on its usual date of 16th of the month when my internet decided to refuse to cooperate and 2) it's Midwinter, the time for giving and sharing.

Anyone can ask for a card; leave your question in the comment box, and I will leave a reply based on the Tarot card I have drawn from the deck I am in the throes of creating. Feel free to pimp me out to your friends; any and all are welcome.

If you wish to leave an anonymous comment, that is allowed. If you want me to reply by private message, just mention that (but ensure you have your filter set so that I'm able so to do). You can post your results to your own journal, although I'd be grateful if you linked the posting back to me in some way.

Now for the legal stuff. While I take my work seriously (I'm an ATA member and TCBA certified professional reader) I am not a substitute for medical or legal advice. What I tell you is not carved in stone; we all have free will to make our own decisions.

Federal law states that I have to tell you that this is for entertainment purposes only. All of that said, let the draw begin!

[mood | too busy]
[music |Diana Krall: Christmas Time Is Here]

I've FINALLY got internet again -- sheesh!

I apologize profusely to all and sundry on behalf of my modem for it's lack of cooperation!

To make amends, the December One-Card draw is going to last all weekend.

I'll be working at the computer in fits and starts, trying to get caught up with everything, and will do the readings as and when I can, so you might not hear from me 'immediately' after sending your request but I 'will' get to you.

The draw will run from Noon Saturday 19th to Midnight Sunday 20th. I'll make a site-wide post tomorrow when I get started.

For now, back to playing catch up on everything! And again, I apologize profusely for the delay due to circumstances beyond my control. Thanks for understanding.

Tarot Tuesday [Dec. 15th, 2009|11:09 am]

tarot

[stonetalker]
[Current Location |my wonderful home with boxes and clutter everywhere]
[mood | good]
[music |The Albion Band: Albion Heart]

Don't forget! Wednesday the 16th is December's free one-card draw day, from noon until midnight CST.

In previous weeks we've been doing exercises that help is to learn how to 'read' the Tarot. This lesson is going to look at another way we can interact with the Tarot, and that is through meditation.

Go through the cards in your Tarot deck, and choose a card that looks nice, peaceful, and calming to you. This card will be different for different people, but the ones that I like to use are The Sun, The Star, Temperance, The Ten of Cups, and the Hermit. You may choose another card, if it resonates with you more than one of these.

Using the probing techniques we have been using throughout this series, study your chosen card, and write down your observations in a notebook. Now think of a time in your life when you were really happy and relaxed. It might have been a time when you were with your family or friends, a time when you were alone on vacation and enjoying your own company, it doesn't really matter, as long as the experience was positive, uplifting, and relaxing.

Write in your notebook how the card you chose relates to the positive experience you are recalling. When you have finished writing, breathe in deeply, and envision that you are breathing in the relaxing experience. Close your eyes, and picture your chosen Tarot card as you breathe. Allow all the tension you are feeling, any stress that you are experiencing, to disappear and be replaced by the image of the Tarot card and the memory of your uplifting experience.

As you go through your day, whenever you start to feel tense or anxious, repeat this exercise. Imagine your Tarot card, and as you envision it, breathe out your stress, and breathe in peace and calmness.
